Captain Paul Schlafley has over 40 years experience fishing lake Michigan. Paul is a native to the Manistee area. Having been raised right on the Manistee River channel, his parents owned Riverside Motel & Marina and then Paul bought it from his folks and ran it for 10 years. Paul has a lifetime of fishing experience. Ludington Michigan Tournament Winner. As a boy, he was a fishing fanatic, you would always find him fishing the piers at Manistee or traversing the shores of the Manistee River.

Here is some info about how a charter works. Hope this helps clarify a few questions.
Being on time is important, if your late this can cost you fish. we can not extend our trips. We are on a schedule and run two trips a day.
If the Capt. cancels because of weather,(safety) you get your deposit back or can reschedule. rain does NOT affect the fish. So yes we fish in the rain. So come prepared.
We do not provide food, bring your own, and also a cooler. we do not provide them.
The max allowed on the 38' Tiara is 6, yes kids count and so does Grandma that just wants to go along for the ride.
The max on the Hewes Craft is 4.
Everyone 17 and older needs a fishing license. We don't provide them.
When I ask how many people, I do NOT need names, ages, job titles etc, or to know if its cousin Clem or Aunt Dorthy.
The first mate works for tips, so please be kind to them.
I have also found that people do not read the emails, or text completely, So be sure you read them. As for as payment and questions you may have.
A deposit is required to book a trip as well, put me down doesn't work for me.
we always reach out to you several days in advance and confirm everything.
I do my best to try to interpret the weather. But sometimes Mother Nature throws a curve ball. I watch it very closely, several times a day. If I can save you a drive , I will. And I know we aren’t going to be fishing I will do my best to let you know in advance. But sometimes it’s borderline. I get it you are excited and want to go. But safety is first. Some people can handle a few foot chop others can’t. It’s all based on the clients we have that day.

I have been fishing with Paul for more years than I can count. He got started when he was a very young man because he always knew where to find and catch the fish, and he still does. Can’t recommend him enough!!!
